I want to cosplay Yoko from Gurren Lagann but I'm very self conscious about showing off my thick, curvy self especially with a character who's suppose to be thin but this blog gives me hope that despite being voluptuous you can still do an excellent cosplay so thank you *<3*! ~(`A`~)
You’re so welcome! Glad the blog is helping. ^_^ You may have already seen the pictures, but we have some beautiful Yoko cosplays a few pages back on this blog. I hope you do end up cosplaying Yoko, and of course I hope you’ll send a picture our way if you do. :)
Hi! I love the idea of your blog and I love how there are such amazing quality cosplays here too! I have a question that maybe you and also the people contributing and followers to this blog might be able to answer and help me with: What can you do to make someone who's new to cosplaying and adorably chubby feel 'confident' and not embarrassed when they do so? Thanks!
Hi! So glad you’re enjoying the blog! :D Well, first I’d definitely just introduce them to the realm of fat-positivity. There are quite a few blogs just here on tumblr for that. Of course, this one is cosplay specific, but there are loads of them out there that aren’t that will be just as helpful. Fuckyeahfatpositive is my favorite, and I’m pretty sure they have links to many others. It might take a while, but basically you want your friend to shift the way they think about being fat. Most media, and even some of the cosplay community, is going to throw all kinds of negative crap their way about fat being unattractive and unhealthy, which is just plain untrue. What you’ll want to do is counteract that as much you can with positivity. I personally just stopped looking at mainstream media that discussed body image for a while. It’s just too negative and it’ll get to you if you let it. I only read things and saw things that were fat-positive. After a while, you do a complete 180. When you start laughing when someone insults you for being fat, or when you read the “get ready for swimsuit season” shit in magazines and go “Why? Bitch, I’m fabulous right now,” you’re on the right track. Like I said, it might take a while, but they’ll get there.
As far as cosplaying right now, I found that it helped to jump right in to it. Feel intimidated by a cosplay? Do it. Do it next con. I’ve done few things that were really cool and helped me grow that weren’t also a little scary. I’ve done cosplay that scared the hell out of me, in cosplay groups where everyone else was stick-thin. I’ve walked out of elevators at cons thinking, “Oh my god, what if people think this is awful cosplay and that I look horrible?” I don’t think I’ve ever walked back in to the elevator later thinking anything other than, “That was so much fun. Best. Con. Ever.” I think if your friend just jumps right in to it, they’ll quickly realize that it’s not scary like it seems. First time they get complimented on their cosplay, I think they’ll get hooked just like the rest of us here. Also try to get them to submit a picture of the cosplay here before the con! The followers here always leave really encouraging, lovely comments. I think that’ll help them bolster their confidence before con. And of course, if anyone else here has advice, please do comment! I’d love to hear other perspectives and different confidence-building methods. Hope that helps! <3
Since I just spammed your submission box once again, I reckon this time I'll use your ask~ All I wanted to say is that sometime this year or next I'm hoping to do a Sailor Jupiter cosplay~ Thank you for inspiring me!
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D I wanna see it when you’re done with it! And thank you. I feel like everyone on this here blog have done so much inspiring on my end. Thank you for the submission spam and the lovely message, and I can’t wait to see the Jupiter cosplay! <3
OHGODILOVEYOUSOMUCH. I started cosplaying in 2006, and OMG fat cosplayers were looked at like the plague. It didn't matter how awesome your cosplay was, if you were fat, you were terrible. I stopped in 2008 cause I just couldn't stand the thought of someone taking my pictures and posting them on forums to make fun of me. (Which actually happened) But this year, I'm getting back into it, and this blog will be my inspiration! Thank you so much for that!
HI! And thanks! <3 you too. :) Yeah, few things are more hurtful to the cosplayer’s soul than getting looked at like the plague just because you’re fat, regardless of the fact that it took you months of no sleep and forsaking school/work to make sure your cosplay looked perfect. I always hate hearing that someone’s been made fun of for no reason. But I’m so glad to hear that you’re getting back into it this year!! And if anyone makes fun of you this year, fuck them and laugh it off. Once you decide you don’t give a shit about them, their poking fun becomes weirdly funny and entertaining. Haters get so worked up over dumb shit. XD Anyway, thank you and I can’t wait to see some awesome 2012 cosplay from ya. ^_^
This is me cosplaying Harley Quinn from Batman, im about size 16/18 and i absolutely loved cosplaying as Harls, Everyone was so great to me and said i looked great. I got alot of horrible comments online however and i hate that despite having a good hour glass figure of the costume that people still feel the need to point me out as a bad cosplayer when i had sooo much fun on the day.
Your costume is beautiful. Forget those people who made the bad comments online. Some people just want to feel important by trying to find ways to cut down others. Laugh it off, say “fuck them,” and dammit, wear that costume to all the cons because it rocks ultimate and, most importantly, you had fun in it.
I'm very happy that I found this blog! I decided to start cosplaying again, it's been a long time, but of course I've put on more pounds so I was uncertain, but now I have hope :D -- I'll definitively submit once I have something~ Keep up the amazing work!
Hi! Sorry I suck at replying quickly, haha. I had all the papers this week. >.< Anyway, I’m so glad you’ve decided to start cosplaying again! I love to hear stuff like that! :’~) Please do submit once you have something! Thanks so much for the lovely feedback and I can’t wait to see some of your cosplay! <3
Hiya. :D Me and my best friend are going to a con this year, and we were planning on cosplaying. My friend is larger than me and she's well aware of it, and was starting to lose confidence in herself and cosplaying her favourite character. Soon after, I found this blog, and I showed it to her immediately. Now she's completely inspired again and totally ready for the con this year! So thank you ever so much for this wonderful blog. It can really help people! :) ♥
Hi! I’m so glad your friend is re-inspired and ready to cosplay for the upcoming con! ^_^ Love that you showed her the blog and that it helped. And thank you for the lovely feedback! Warms my fat-positive, cosplay-obsessed soul to hear stuff like this. <3
